It was inspiring. I really don't have the skill to put it into words.
After the marathon was over we went back to the APLA headquarters in Korea Town to eat lunch, and along the way we were educated a little about what the APLA actually does. Basically they help people out who are living with AIDS and also afflicted with poverty. There are food banks and mobile dental clinics. There's nutrition programs to teach people what foods will go with the medications they are taking. There's an awareness campaign which tries to educated people on how to prevent
spreading AIDS.

Those of us who are somewhat educated tend to think everybody knows how HIV is spread and how to prevent it. The truth is, some people just
don't know.

Before our visit to the APLA headquarters I was pretty much doing this marathon thing as a personal challenge, but now i'm really into the fundraising aspect. I believe in what the APLA is doing, and I really want to help.

So help me help. Seriously. You know what to do. Click on the picture and put in your credit card number. It's easy and it's gonna make a difference in
somebody's life.

You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that 'the
Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor
and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.
10:21

Yesterday sucked. it was my first eight hour work day in "for like, ever." The actual time spent wasn't as bad as the work I had to do. I had to unload 3 big crates of pumpkins by myself and move about 20 40-50 pound plants. I also swept the whole garden center. What did my co-worker do? She watered and goofed around with her friend. Next time I'm gonna do the easy stuff while she does the hard stuff, because I just worked way too hard yesterday. I could tell the boss was surprised how much stuff I was getting done, so I guess that means I can stop working so hard and take it easy.

Even though i'm complaining, I really like having a job where I do physical stuff. Right now I'm sore but my body also feels happy and I'm in a good mood. Time also passes alot faster when you're sweeping than it does when you're standing/sitting around (which I could have been doing much of that time) or working a front lanes cash register (which is what i used to do at target).

This weekend is something called NorCal Noisefest. It's 3 nights and 30 noise bands in 2 venues. If i'm not able to go with Meghan to Long Beach (which is most likely), then i'll try to make it to a couple nights of noisefest (particularly sunday night, which features a few bands i've actually heard of and like). We lost the keys to the escort last week. We need to find them before Meghan goes to L.B. so I'll have a car to drive.

Today I mail cds to St. Louis, Washington, and Australia (postage on that is going to kill me).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:42

Went to goodwill, where they had just put out a buncha records. There were 3 containers full of them. I piked out about 25 that i wanted (and left some others that i wanted, but not as much, sitting in the containers), and then went and sat on a couch so that i could sift through and pick out which ones i would buy. They're a dollar a piece, so i couldn't really buy all of them because i'm too poor.
Here are the records I bought:

1. Brownie McGee, Lightnin' Hopkins, Sonny Terry, Joe Williams- Southern Meetin'
My favorite part of any recording that has Sonny Terry on it is when he sing/whoops like a harmonica. I'm listening to this record right now and its just great. I don't know how somebody like me can stand listening to some dudes play the same song ever and over again, but these guys make it so fun. You can tell they really enjoy making music, and the instrumental interplay (between 3 guitars a harmonica and a bass [which is barely audible and is just there for rhythmic support) is just awesome.
2. Pete Seeger - Children's Concert at Town Hall
3. Pete Seeger - The Bitter and The Sweet -- Recorded in Person at The Bitter End
4. The Folksinger's Guitar Guide -- An Instructional Record by Pete Seeger
5. Odetta - The Tin Angel
6. Odetta - My Eyes Have Seen
7. Frank Sinatra - Adventures of The Heart
8. Dianna Ross and Marvin Gaye - Diana & Marvin
9. Marvin Gaye - Lets Get It On
10. Aretha Franklin - Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of The Sky)
11. Aretha Franklin - Soul '69

Records I left: A Buffalo Springfield restrospective double LP set, the beatles' white album, 3 Aretha records, 2 association records, the animals greatest hits, and quite a few others. I wish i had the money to buy them all.

I'm still listening to the McGee/Hopkins record, and i think one of the great things about it is that it doesn't sound like 3 guitars, it sounds like 2. Usually people are awestruck if one guitarist sounds like 2 guitarists, or if 2 sound like 3, but in this case, its best to sound like fewer guitars than you have, because 3 guitars all playing interesting stuff would just be overpowering. I love these old blues records because the playing is so intuitive. These guys didn't take lessons, yet they're all brilliant. HOW can they play the same song ever and over again without getting boring?

i just bought 19 records at various thrift stores. total price for all records: $5.50. first i went to sac's, where i got 10 records for a dollar, and a t-shirt. none of the records was anything i'm too excited about, but come on, ten cents each. next i went to W.E.A.V.E. and got 6 records at a quarter each. i thought i was going to get stevie wonder's innervisions but i looked at the record inside and it was an average white band record. i was angry. i broke the awb record and spit on the cashier. some person had donated a killer eighties metal collection to that store. they had what must have been the entire discography of judas priest, a shitload of nugent (wait hes seventies huh) a buncha scorpions (wait are they seventies too? as a matter of fact aren't judas priest mainly a seventies band? my bad). therre was a buncha other stuff i'd never heard of but all the records had guys on the covers looking all spooky and people climbing rocky cliffs and shit. i got a couple of rush and yes record which i think must have belonged to the same person (as all the metal records [i like fantasizing about these things when i'm looking for records]). i also got the cars self titled cd cos it had like all of their hits. after W.E.A.V.E. i went to goodwill and got frosty the snowman, some hawaaian dude, and the best find of the day: the soundtrack from willy wonka and the chocolate factory.

now i'm going to pick meghan up from work and then we have to go to ceramics class but i don't want to because i'm tired and i don't really like that class.

today was an exciting day. here is what makes for an exciting day in the house of nothin':

--last night i got an email from my dad saying hes gonna send me 600 dollars and that i can buy a vaccum cleaner on his j.c. penney card.

--woke up this morning and read my livejournal friends list. ashley wrote about www.thegrocerygame.com and i checked it out. it was cool and i decided meghan and i should use their list to save money at the grocery store. we went to get a ralphs card and after that we bought the paper so we could look for coupons and stuff.

--after we got the paper we went to ross, where i bought a percalating (mis-spelled i know) esspresso maker for 7 dollars and a banana hanger for 5 dollars. i eat alot of bananas. they need to be hung, dammit. meghan got a candle that smells like cinnamon for 5 dollars and a harry potter stationary set for 3 dollars. i have to give meghan the edge over me for the kitsch value of her purchases, but for long-term usefullness i totally kicked her ass.

--drank a triple shot of esspresso (cold). i've been off of soft drinks for at least a week, but i've been using starbucks double shots as a source of caffeine, the horror(s?) of which is (are? grammar help plz) twofold: (i don't believe i know the proper use of the word "twofold"): 1) in buying such a product i support a company which i despise becuase i dislike franchises, especially franchises which cater to the idea that culture can be replicated. i'm not being lucid here. what i mean is every starbucks is the same and every starbucks seems inside like some hip seattle coffee place, but they're all over the place, and they're all the same. starbucks takes business away from real hip (which is a word i would usually use as perjorative, but not here) coffee houses like the true love coffee house in sacramento , which is down the street from a starbucks which you know makes much, much more money than the true love coffee house. 2) they are two dollars a piece, an expense i can't justify, especially when i get mad at meghan for buying the occasional 4 dollar steak. so now i have a relatively inexpensive caffeine source.

--meghan and i went to ralphs. the total was 91 dollars before coupons and ralphs club discount. after it came out to 51. still too much money. meghan buys too much extra crap. she is a sucky shopper. if i had my way neither of us would eat anything other than ramen noodles.

now we're home. and you're all like "wheres the exciting part?" and to that i reply "fuck you! let me enjoy the small nothings that make life worth living!"

meghan and i had like 4 fights today. we always fight over shopping, plus meghan is bleeding out of her thang so that makes us fight more. damn, now this has to be a friends only post. ok, now i'm gonna go eat some food. byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
